Our student competitors were Yosgart Cruz from Don Julian, Roxy Raygoza from Edgewood, Edison Lee from Sunkist, Alesha Shafeeq from Van Wig and Chelsea Xu from Torch Middle School. There were over 130 spellers entered into the bee representing schools from all over Los Angeles County.
The competition lasted nearly 7 hours and a one point ran out of official words and had to start pulling words directly from Webster's Dictionary, in accordance with the rules. Our students did exceptionally well with Roxy Roygoza finishing tied for 58th, Alesha Shafeeq, Edison Lee, Yosgart Cruz tied for 28th and Chelsea Xu making it all the way to tied for 16th place.
Congratulations to these hard-working students, all their dedicated teachers and parents and our school site principals and their class/site spelling bee coordinators.
If you see these students on campus this week, congratulate them on their amazing achievement along with yourselves and their parents for making this years' Spelling Bee a tremendous success.
